I feel it happening It feels like now I see it all around And now I see it in you Today’s the day Today’s the day The world will melt away The sun shines through Nothing can stop us We can make it through Today’s the day Today’s the day

Hello wake up it’s time to go now The last train left about an hour ago The Colorado nights are getting cold now The weather report promises snow There’s a steal your face tattoo And you wear your hair low so it don’t show Because you really don’t want anyone to know you Where you have been and where you might go Suggestion, confession, confusion It’s an illusion You sing at the top of your lungs but nobody knows Because you sound like a goat on the hillside That eats enough for the both of us There’s a steal your face tattoo And you wear your hair low so it don’t show Because you really don’t want anyone to get to know you Where you have been and where you might go And the end of the world doesn’t seem so long ago Hello wake up it’s time to go now The Colorado nights are getting too cold There’s a steal your face hiding on your shoulder And you wear your hair low But you really don’t want anyone to get to know you Where you have been or where you might go There’s a steal your face steal your face hiding on your shoulder And the end of the world doesn’t seem so long ago And the end of the world doesn’t seem so long ago

Maura was the dark star Black sheep of the family She never said much but I guess it was as much focused on the chemistry Vincent was the best of All his mother’s sons Apple of the eye drove a tractor at age five But lately he’s so bored Their eyes met as the sun went down On Starlight Town Spending their days together While planning their getaway Vincent said, “Hey, we should run away” “You know I’ll go wherever you are” Putting their stuff together Stealing their neighbor’s car Left it by the riverbank with no gas inside the tank They left some money in the door And when the check and bill came ‘round They charged it all To Starlight Town Meanwhile back at Starlight There was a bank robbery Vincent was named Subsequently he was blamed A mistaken identity Vincent pleads his innocence Through the basement walls Even though he was surrounded Only one shot sounded She said, “He never carried a gun.” Maura took the next greyhound bound To Starlight Town Run to Starlight Run to Starlight Run to Starlight Town

about

The New Familiar is Goldenboy’s latest album, and plays like a fond voyage through the ‘60s-‘90s classics canon. Yet in (non)traditional Goldenboy style it’s loaded with sonic surprises –– little twists of the unexpected chord here, an odd time signature there, and always the goosebumping wisp of instrumental texture. Tracks like “The Walking Song” with breathy voices astride keyboard/synth drafts that build with intensity, while the meditative “One of My Moods” and lighthearted “Today Is the Day” and “Steal Your Face” flicker across Shon Sullivan & Co.’s own ever-shifting emotional terrains.
Recorded and produced at Sullivan’s Silverlake studio, The New Familiar saw the forever-touring band sharpening up songs they’d developed over the past two years. They’ve created a piquant sound of quiet urgency and jovial buoyancy that owes both to the group’s affectionate, and ESP-like bond with each other.
“We just keep going, and living in the moment,” says Sullivan. “When you do that, you become really happy.”
